KARLA ALFARO

Karla Alfaro is a versatile and multidisciplinary professional with over two decades of experience spanning academic administration, human resources management, and institutional development. Her profile uniquely combines operational rigor in higher education with a deep background in social advocacy and high-end hospitality management.

Since October 2005, she has served as the Provost Office and Faculty Administrative Assistant at Haverford College (Pennsylvania). In this capacity, she provides comprehensive support to the Foreign Language Departments, Linguistics, East Asian Studies, and the Independent College Program. Her core responsibilities include budget management, logistical coordination for faculty searches and personnel dossiers (faculty dossiers), support for external department evaluations, event planning, and website content maintenance—serving as a key operational bridge between department chairs, faculty, and students.


Previously, she honed her academic management expertise as an Office Associate at the Mexican American and U.S. Latino Research Center at Texas A&M University, where she managed a $207,000 budget, handled accounting processes, and coordinated seminars, research activities, and travel logistics.


Her early career focused heavily on Human Resources and Social Work across Peru and the United States, working with renowned international hospitality brands such as Orient Express Hotels (Hotel Monasterio, Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, and Keswick Hall) and Holiday Inn. During this tenure, she spearheaded employee welfare initiatives, conflict resolution, performance evaluations, payroll processing, and sociocultural mediation, while frequently acting as a bilingual liaison and interpreter.

  • Education: M.S. in Higher Education from Drexel University (2010), featuring a comprehensive co-op thesis evaluating Haverford College's Office of Multicultural Affairs; and an B.A. in Social Work from La Universidad Andina del Cuzco (1996).
