Luis Manuel Peña Féliz

He is a pioneer of Modern Library Science and Information Management in the Dominican Republic and one of the most emblematic and respected figures in the field of library and information sciences in his country. His academic and professional career is distinguished by a solid combination of disciplines that support his comprehensive vision of knowledge. He began his education with a high school diploma in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a decisive foundation that gave him the analytical structure and methodological rigor essential for the later design and organization of information systems.

Understanding the impact of globalization and access to international scientific literature, he continued his higher education by earning a degree in Modern Languages with a specialization in English. Later, driven by his organizational and educational vocation, he earned a degree in Education with a specialization in Library Science. His constant pursuit of academic excellence and professional development led him to complete a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science at the prestigious Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), consolidating a high-level multidisciplinary professional profile.

His relationship with the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) spans more than 30 years of uninterrupted and committed service. Throughout these three decades, Professor Peña Feliz has held strategic roles in teaching as well as in the management and modernization of the university library system. He has been a key figure in the university’s digital and institutional transformation, leading pioneering projects in library automation, the migration of analog catalogs to digital platforms, and the standardization of technical cataloging and classification processes according to international standards.

His work has extended beyond classrooms and bookshelves, making him a prolific communicator of knowledge. He is the author of more than 50 specialized articles addressing key topics such as information architecture, open access, the evaluation of bibliographic resources, and the technological challenges faced by information units in the Caribbean context.

With a forward-looking vision of the democratization of knowledge, he has effectively integrated digital platforms into his educational vocation. He is the creator and principal manager of the “Bibliotecología y Más” project, which includes a specialized blog and a YouTube channel focused on continuing education, the exchange of best practices, and the dissemination of library science culture. Through this platform, he provides tutorials, technical analyses, and practical guidance that serve as a reference for both students and professionals throughout the region.

Throughout his career, he has represented UASD with distinction at numerous congresses, conferences, and national and international gatherings, contributing to the positioning and academic discussion of information sciences. For his impeccable work ethic, visionary leadership, and tireless teaching efforts, he has received multiple institutional and community recognitions. Luis Manuel Peña Feliz’s legacy is founded on his passion for knowledge, his pedagogical generosity in educating new generations, and his decisive role in the evolution and strengthening of Dominican library science.
